As an industry standard platform, it is an incredible asset for any creative to have in their toolbox but where do you get started?

Our 6-week (18 hours) introductory course aims to help students get a foundational understanding of this program through project-based learning and guided exercises. 

Students must have a strong understanding of non-linear editing on such as Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro, Avid, or DaVinci before enrolling in this course. This course is intended for video editors or animators who want to dive into the world of After Effects.

  • Creating a Basic Animation Using Effects and Presets

  • Animating Text

  • Shapes 

  • Animating a Multimedia Presentation

  • Animating Layers

  • Working With Masks

  • Distorting Objects with the Puppet Tools

  • Building 3D Objects

  • Using 3D Features

INSTRUCTOR: Gary Girbich is a graduate of the University of Texas Film School and an instructor of Adobe After Effects CC (Creative Cloud) and Adobe Premiere Pro CC courses at the Austin School of Film. Gary has worked professionally in Film and Broadcast Television. He has also written a book based on a true WWII story entitled Patton’s Lost Platoon, which was an Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award Quarterfinalist in 2010. Gary continues to write novels, scripts and short form projects, and remains actively engaged in production and post-production.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND: Whether you are an experienced editor transitioning from other editing platforms like Avid, Sony Vegas, iMovie and Final Cut Pro or you are interested in expanding your skillset to advanced editing knowledge and techniques; this class will provide advanced knowledge and skills needed to edit effectively. Digital Video Certificate students may take this course in replacement of the Final Cut Pro Advanced class.

NOTE: All software training classes take place in MMAC's iMac computer lab. All software courses are taught on iMac computers. Mac experience is strongly suggested but not required.

PRE-REQUISITES: Intro to Adobe Premiere Pro or similar skillset. Students must be at least 16 years old to take this class.

SUPPLIES: All included including iMac workstation and software for the duration of the course.

CERTIFICATEASoF Digital Video Certificate editing class.

PAYMENT PLANS: Payment plans are available to anyone for any class or workshop. We suggest 25% of the tuition price as your “down payment”. The additional balance can then be split in up to 1-4 equal payments over the course of weeks or months. This course and all ASoF courses are certified with the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to provide Continue Professional Educational (CPE) credits.
