In the dynamic world of film and television post-production, audio plays a crucial role. Our 12-hour post-production audio course provides a comprehensive hands-on exploration of the techniques and strategies used by industry professionals.
Under the guidance of sound engineer Todd Thompson, students in this intimate class setting will benefit from extensive one-on-one access to post-audio equipment, complete with computer setups. Hosted in our state-of-the-art Apple Lab, all necessary materials, assets, and computer stations will be readily available for students' use throughout the course.
Course Highlights:
Gain practical training through project-based exercises
Learn essential post-production sound skills
Topics include audio editing, signal processing, sound effects and foley, basic scoring, and mixing
The course starts with an overview of audio post-production history, leading up to today's digital revolution. Practical software like Apple GarageBand or Adobe Audition will be introduced.
Student Experience:
Apply techniques in class projects to prepare for real-world scenarios
Learn to ask proactive questions, troubleshoot problems, and collaborate towards creative goals
Prerequisite: Strong computer literacy skills.
This course will be held at the Austin School of Film in our iMac computer lab, with all materials, equipment, software, and computers provided for the duration of the class.
HOW CAN I START A PAYMENT PLAN?
Anyone is eligible for a payment plan for any class if they need it! Email us to get started on a payment plan at classes@austinfilmschool.org. We require 25% of the tuition cost at registration and can divide the remaining balance in up to 2 additional equal payments.
ABOUT THE EDUCATOR
Todd Thompson is a sound engineer and professional musician with degrees in Production from Florida State University and Recording Arts from the University of Southern California. He has his M.A. in Media Studies from the University of Texas. He directed and edited the short documentary “A Lifetime in Repair” which played at the Austin Film Festival and took first place in the Graduate Student Assembly Film Showcase at UT.
Previously, he lived in Miami and worked as an assistant engineer at Criteria Studios (now Hit Factory), and a video editor for MTV Latino, and the ad agency Crispin Porter + Bogusky. He is currently the owner of Dharma Bomb Studios and is a co-producer of the media studies podcast Aca-media.

Pre-requisites:
All levels welcome; Sound Recording for Film & Video (or equivalent experience) is preferred but not required
Students must be at least 16 years old to take this class

We suggest 25% of the tuition price as your “down payment,” with the additional balance split into up to 1-4 equal payments over the course of weeks or months
