Film Directing

Film Directing

$675.00

This 10-session, 30-hour course explores the role of director in narrative film, & provides a hands-on environment in which students will create their own short film. Taking an intensive hands-on approach into the process of directing films – from designing a tight narrative script to blocking & camera placement, working with actors, production design, & creative direction in the post-production process – culminating in a 5-minute short shot at the end of the course, which is designed to be festival-ready.

The course will be divided into 2 parts: first, understanding the relationship directors can build with production heads in every department – writing, production design, cinematography, editing – & second, the process through which a director can work with actors.

As this is not a technical course, students must have already completed ASoF’s Digital Filmmaking class or Minority Lens: Script to Screen, or be able to demonstrate commensurate knowledge &/or ability.

Films completed in this course are eligible to be featured at multiple ASoF student showcases, including our Official SXSW (South by Southwest) Community Film Screening.
